The stunning Árainn Mhór – Ailt an Chorráin Blueway is set to launch its new promotional videos at a special event on Friday, July 4th at 11am.
Donegal Tourism Ambassador, Noel Cunningham, will unveil the videos at An Chúltúrlann on Arranmore Island. All are welcome to attend (RSVP details below).
During the event, Noel will also reveal the official blueway logo, a cormorant symbolizing the connection between land, sea, and the people, at Leabgarrow Foreshore.
Note: The launch event was originally scheduled for June but was postponed as a sign of respect following a bereavement.
The Árainn Mhór – Ailt an Chorráin Blueway aims to highlight the beauty and recreational activities available on Ireland’s first and only coastal Blueway that incorporates the sea.
Linking Burtonport (Ailt an Chorráin) on the mainland to Arranmore Island (Árainn Mhór), the Blueway provides a variety of land and water-based recreational experiences, encompassing walking, cycling, kayaking, sailing, and snorkelling, all while showcasing the beautiful scenery of Donegal.
Experience peace, tranquillity & stunning landscapes, check in with your wellbeing whilst the unique and authentic Árainn Mhór-Ailt an Chorráin Blueway experience charms all of your senses.
The Blueway’s land trails present several options for walkers and cyclists on both Arranmore and the mainland:
- Slí Árainn Mhór: A 14km loop around Arranmore Island, providing magnificent views and a moderate walking experience.
- The Old Railway Walk: A picturesque trail along the former railway line between Burtonport and Letterkenny, featuring remnants of the old railway infrastructure.
- Kinballycrowie Loop: A circular walk from Burtonport harbor following the old railway corridor, passing through quiet country lanes and woodlands.
- Crickamore Loop: A shorter loop along a beautiful section of the old railway corridor, returning via peaceful country lanes.
Water-Based Activities – Arranmore
Visitors have the opportunity to participate in a range of water activities, including kayaking, sailing, and snorkelling. Local operators offer equipment rental and guided tours. The first accredited snorkel trails in Ireland, in particular, have been noted for their clear waters and abundant marine life, leading to a unique underwater adventure.
Walk, cycle, snorkel, sail or kayak on the Árainn Mhór-Ailt an Chorráin Blueway!
