A businessman from West Donegal has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
The defendant, in his 40s, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court.
The accused, whose name is being withheld at this time, entered a guilty plea.
He admitted to sexually assaulting the girl by touching her breast and vagina through her clothing.
A second charge was taken into consideration by the court.
The court heard that the married man, who is also a father, employs several individuals in his business.
He has no prior criminal record.
The court was informed that the victim currently lives outside of Ireland but attended the brief court arraignment.
The charge falls under section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990.
Prosecutor Fiona Crawford BL stated that the guilty plea to the sexual assault charge adequately addressed the facts of the case.
Defense barrister James McGowan SC, accompanied by Mr. Peter Nolan BL and solicitor Donough Cleary, emphasized that his client is a businessman with “a number of employees.”
The man’s legal counsel requested that a full Probation and Welfare Report be prepared before sentencing.
Judge Roderick Maguire approved the request and adjourned the case until October for sentencing.
The victim, accompanied by family members, was informed that she could attend the sentencing via videolink.
