Singleton’s SuperValu, a prominent supermarket located on the northside of Cork City in Hollyhill, has entered receivership.

Luke Charleton and Alan Large of EY have been appointed as joint receivers and are slated to oversee the store’s operations.

In a released statement, Singleton’s SuperValu addressed the situation: “The management of SuperValu Hollyhill has invited the appointment of Luke Charleton and Alan Large of EY as joint receivers, to take over the operation of the store.

“This decision was made with the intention of restructuring the business to ensure its long-term sustainability and to safeguard jobs.”

“For many years, this store has been an integral part of the community, and we have been actively involved in both the local economy and the social fabric.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to our exceptional team and our loyal customers for their unwavering support. It has been an honor to serve this community for so many years.”

“Musgrave, the SuperValu franchise holder, supports this decision and has affirmed its commitment to supplying the store throughout the receivership process. The store will remain open and will continue to serve the community with the same dedication from its staff,” the statement concluded.

The well-regarded supermarket has been a fixture in Hollyhill for two decades.

The store underwent a substantial refurbishment just two years prior, with owner John Singleton investing €2 million during several months in 2023. The renovation included an expansion of the store’s premises and the creation of 20 new positions.
