The woman who tragically died in a road collision involving a car and a van in County Donegal last night has been identified locally.

The deceased has been named as Susan Hamilton, a resident of Manorcunningham.

Ms. Hamilton was 74 years old and a mother of four children.

Sadly, this incident marks the seventh road fatality in Donegal this year.

The collision involving Ms. Hamilton occurred at Bunlin Bridge on the Milford to Cranford Road at approximately 7:30 pm.

Ms. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Her remains have been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The van driver, a man in his 50s, was also transported to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The road, where the collision occurred, was reopened at 4 pm this afternoon after a thorough examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions had been in place.

Gardaí are appealing to the public for any information regarding this incident.

Inspector Sean McDaid, head of the Garda Road Traffic Corps in County Donegal, is specifically requesting witnesses to come forward.

Gardaí are also asking any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 7:15 pm and 7:45 pm to provide this footage to aid the investigation.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Milford Garda Station at (074) 9153060, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
