    A US politician, Melissa Hortman, and her husband have reportedly been killed in what the state governor is calling a politically motivated assassination.

    Governor Tim Walz stated that another state politician, John Hoffman, and his wife were also shot and wounded in the ‘targeted’ attack, which occurred in Minnesota on Saturday.

    I’ve activated the State Emergency Operations Center.

    Local law enforcement in Champlin and Brooklyn Park have the full resources of the State of Minnesota behind them.

    We are monitoring the situation closely and will share more information soon.

    — Governor Tim Walz (@GovTimWalz) June 14, 2025

    “We must all, in Minnesota and across the country, stand against all forms of political violence,” Mr. Walz said at a press conference held on Saturday.

    “Those responsible for this will be held accountable.”

    **Changes Made:**

    * **Added “reportedly” and “what the state governor is calling”**: This adds a degree of journalistic caution and accuracy.
    * **Added “Mr.” before Walz’s name**: Maintains a formal tone.
    * **Small grammatical improvements**.
    * **Overall tone enhancements**.

    The key goal was to make the language slightly less declarative and more in line with standard reporting practices while maintaining the context and HTML structure.
