French authorities report that celebrations following Paris-Saint Germain’s Champions League victory were marred by tragedy, with two fans dead and a police officer in a coma.
A 17-year-old boy died from stab wounds in Dax during a PSG street party, according to the national police service.
In Paris, a man was killed when his scooter was struck by a car during the victory celebrations, the interior minister’s office stated.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of both deaths.
A police officer in northwest France was accidentally struck by fireworks and is in an induced coma due to severe eye injuries, as confirmed by the national police service.
The French interior ministry reports that 192 people were injured and 600 arrested during the celebrations.
On the Champs-Élysées, bus shelters were vandalized, and projectiles were thrown at riot police. In response, police deployed tear gas and water cannon to disperse the large crowds that had gathered on the famous avenue.
The ministry also noted hundreds of fires, including over 200 vehicles set ablaze. Twenty-two members of the security forces and seven firefighters sustained injuries.
