Gardaí are investigating thefts and attempted thefts from three Donegal churches last week, including one instance of vandalism.
The first incident involves a burglary at St. Mary’s Church (main pic) on Main St, Pettigo, which occurred sometime between 9am and 4pm on Thursday, July 17th. The door to the Sacristy was forced open, and the room was ransacked. However, it is believed that nothing was stolen.
Garda Grainne Doherty is appealing for information: “We appeal to anyone who may have observed any suspicious activity, vehicles, or individuals in the area on that date to contact Gardaí in Ballyshannon at 071 9858530.” She added that the Garda Confidential Line can also be reached at 1800 666 111.
On Wednesday, July 16th, at approximately 11:20am, two male teenagers entered the Franciscan Friary in Rossnowlagh and attempted to break into a donations box. The attempt failed, and no money was stolen, but the box was damaged. One of the teens was wearing a grey tracksuit, grey trainers, and a black/navy baseball cap. The other was wearing a grey top, blue jeans, and black trainers.
“If anyone saw these boys in the area around that time, we ask them to contact Gardaí,” Garda Doherty stated.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have travelled in the area with a dash-cam between 11am and 12pm. Please pass any relevant information to Gardaí in Ballyshannon on 071 9858530.”
Separately, Gardaí are investigating a theft from a car parked near the Parochial House in Doneyloop between 9pm on Tuesday, July 15th, and 2pm on Thursday, July 17th. The car was entered, and a set of keys and a small amount of cash were stolen. There was no damage to the vehicle. Gardaí are asking anyone who observed suspicious activity, vehicles, or people in the area during that time to contact them in Ballyshannon at 071 9858530.
