The Status Yellow rainfall warning for Donegal, initially issued for today, has been extended and is now valid until 9pm tonight.
The warning, issued by Met Éireann, originally took effect at 7am and was scheduled to expire at 5pm.
Met Éireann now forecasts continued heavy rain, along with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. Potential consequences include localized flooding, reduced visibility, and challenging travel conditions.
The risk of thunderstorms also brings vulnerability to lightning damage.
Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, and Sligo are also under the same Status Yellow rain warning.
Despite the rain, temperatures will remain mild, reaching between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, accompanied by moderate southeasterly winds.
Tonight will remain cloudy with ongoing showers and potential isolated thunderstorms. Expect a humid night with mist and fog development. Temperatures will range from 12 to 15 degrees Celsius with moderate southeast winds.
The weather outlook for the coming days indicates continued high humidity with heavy showers and a risk of thunderstorms across Ireland, particularly on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is expected to bring drier conditions and more sunshine.
