Overnight attacks by Russia on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, involving missiles and drones, have resulted in at least six fatalities, including a six-year-old boy, according to official reports.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that at least 52 others sustained injuries in the attacks, and he anticipates that this number will likely increase.
He stated that a significant portion of a nine-story apartment building collapsed following a direct hit. Rescue teams are currently on-site, working to free individuals trapped within the debris.
“Missile strike. Directly on a residential building. People are under the rubble. All services are on site,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on his Telegram account.
Visuals from the scene depict plumes of smoke rising from a building that suffered partial damage, with debris scattered across the surrounding area.
Mr. Tkachenko indicated that at least 27 locations across Kyiv were impacted by the attack, with the Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts experiencing the most extensive damage.
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced a shortened deadline of August 8 for Russian President Vladimir Putin to demonstrate progress in peace negotiations; failure to do so would result in the implementation of punitive sanctions and tariffs by Washington.
Western leaders have accused Mr. Putin of deliberately stalling US-led peace initiatives with the intention of seizing additional Ukrainian territory.
