The Inishowen branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) is urging healthcare professionals, doctors, medics, and firefighters to participate in a solidarity march for the people of Gaza.
The IPSC encourages professionals to march in their uniforms. They also invite journalists, church representatives, and members of the public to join, suggesting black attire if possible.
The ‘Mourning March for Palestine’ will begin at the river, Cockhill Bridge, at 3 pm on Saturday, August 9th, and proceed to the sea at Buncrana Shorefront.
“We at the Inishowen Branch IPSC have been working tirelessly to raise awareness of the atrocities committed against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank,” said spokesperson Christine McGillan.
“We are all in mourning for the people of Gaza, who are facing relentless bombings, shootings, being burned in tents, buried alive, assassinated, illegally detained, and intentionally starved. We are also fighting fiercely for the living,” Ms. McGillan stated.
“Our ultimate goal and plea is for a permanent ceasefire,” she added.
“Along with the invitation to the public, we implore all journalists to join the march and represent their colleagues who have been murdered reporting on the genocide, while many others have been illegally detained and tortured. Over 200 journalists have been murdered to date, with many more injured,” the spokeswoman emphasized.
“We call on doctors, nurses, medics, first responders, ambulance drivers, firemen and women, community rescue teams, and civil defense teams to please join us in your uniforms and scrubs to demonstrate your solidarity with your grieving and wounded colleagues who have been on the front lines of this hellscape. They’ve dominated the news on our social media and phones, trying to rescue, help, and treat the tens of thousands of dead and injured Gazans. We further invite teachers and academics, as so many of them have also been killed. Those struggling to survive are still trying to teach children and students in makeshift classrooms in unsafe, bombed-out buildings,” Ms. McGillan said.
“We invite representatives from all Churches and their congregations to please join us,” Ms. McGillan appealed.
The IPSC states that wearing work uniforms and scrubs is meant to show the courageous, caring professionals on the ground that they are seen and supported.
“We ask for as many people as possible to make and carry shrouds. Please bring your flags and posters,” Ms. McGillan added.
“While we mourn the death of every person, young and old, we think of the families struggling to survive without them and all of the injured they have to care for in the total absence of any medical aid. This is an opportunity to let them know that we feel their grief and heartache as they continue to be annihilated, displaced again and again, while being deprived of food and water, the very basic rights of all humans,” Ms. McGillan concluded.
