Jimmy Stafford, President of the Letterkenny Chamber, has stated that now is the opportune moment to invest in infrastructure for Letterkenny, Donegal’s largest town.

Stafford delivered his keynote address at the Letterkenny Chamber President’s Lunch, held earlier today at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The event, sponsored by Bank of Ireland, saw a packed house as the Letterkenny Chamber welcomed members and invited guests.

Dara Calleary, Minister for Social Protection, Rural and Community Development, was a special guest.

The lunch and subsequent panel discussion, featuring business experts, revolved around the theme of “Shaping the future of business.”

The Chamber President advocated for ‘positive discrimination’ in favor of Letterkenny and the North West Region, noting that the town’s population is now 22,500, with an additional 20,000 workers and students commuting daily.

He also urged the Government to reconsider its recent decision to designate the region’s surgical hub to Sligo University, arguing that this decision significantly disadvantages the people of County Donegal.

Commenting on Minister Calleary’s address, Jimmy Stafford stated, “Minister Calleary has a strong understanding of this Northern & Western region, and we hope he will convey our crucial messages regarding enabling infrastructure and the imperative to achieve balanced regional development.”

“Alongside our stakeholders, we will continue to advocate for our members and their employees with unwavering vigour and enthusiasm,” he added.

“The time is now for infrastructure delivery, a fresh approach, and the execution of projects with agility and enthusiasm.”

“We have an innovative and resilient business community investing in the region, and we know this county offers a quality of life that is unparalleled. Imagine what we could achieve if the barriers to growth were removed.”

Letterkenny Chamber CEO Toni Forrester expressed enthusiasm about the opportunities arising from the day’s event.

“Having the Minister in the room provided an excellent opportunity to outline our ambitions for this region and county.”

“We are passionate and optimistic about this town and county, and we firmly believe that addressing critical infrastructure deficits would create boundless opportunities for our young people.”

The event concluded with a panel session featuring Maria Sweeney, MD of Safetech, Darragh McCarthy, CEO of FinTrU, and Barry Gallagher of Bank of Ireland.
