A promising young golfer from Donegal experienced a tough loss in a play-off at the Munster U14 Boys Amateur Open Championship yesterday, narrowly missing out on the title.

Charlie O’Hora (14), representing Ballybofey, tied for first place with Ruben Rivas McHugh (Tralee) at 73 points after the final round at Cahir Park Golf Club, Tipperary. Despite a valiant effort, McHugh clinched the victory with a birdie on the 19th hole of a sudden-death play-off. This won’t be the last we see of the talented O’Hora, who plays at Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club.

Earlier this year, in April, he triumphed at the U14 Flogas Irish Junior Open Tour held at Lough Erne Resort in Fermanagh. He also anticipates competing in the Interprovincials in the coming weeks.

A student at St Columba’s College, Stranorlar, Charlie undoubtedly inherited his golfing prowess from his parents, Joe and Brenda, of Benny & Co.
