A pensioner in his 70s has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl in County Donegal in 2021, appearing in Letterkenny District Court.

The individual, whose identity is currently protected, faces charges related to an alleged incident.

The accused is charged with sexually assaulting a female between January 1st and January 31st, 2021.

The charge falls under Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990, as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001.

The court heard that bail was not opposed.

Sergeant Jim Collins requested conditions for the accused’s bail, including monthly signing at a Garda station, maintaining good behaviour, providing a contact number, and refraining from contacting the alleged victim.

The case has been adjourned until September 20th to allow for the preparation of a book of evidence.
