Becoming a member of An Garda Síochána requires intense training under any circumstances – making Garda Lisa-Marie Fitzgerald’s story even more inspiring. Garda Fitzgerald is one of Buncrana’s newest recruits.
Lisa-Marie Fitzgerald, a mother of six, was among 120 individuals who successfully completed their Garda training and were officially sworn in at the Garda College in Tullamore yesterday.
Garda Fitzgerald proudly embraced her new role and was joined by five of her six children for the celebration. Her eldest son remained home to focus on his upcoming Leaving Certificate exams.
An Garda Síochána shared Garda Fitzgerald’s remarkable story on social media today.
“The training to become a Garda is rigorous, demanding unwavering commitment – highlighting the vital support from loved ones behind every Garda. Garda Lisa-Marie Fitzgerald was among those newly attested at the Garda College yesterday,” the post read.
“Driven by a desire to protect the people of Ireland, Garda Fitzgerald pursued her career in policing while simultaneously raising her six children.”
“Her eldest son was unable to attend yesterday’s attestation due to his Leaving Certificate studies, but undoubtedly, he is incredibly proud of his mother.”
