Ollie Horgan has departed from his role as assistant manager at Galway United, the club has announced.
Jon Daly, formerly the manager of St Pat’s, will assume the position of first team coach and assistant manager.
“Galway United wishes to announce that Ollie Horgan has stepped down from his position as Assistant Manager of the Men’s First Team for the foreseeable future,” the club stated.
“Ollie joined the club before the 2023 season and brought his characteristic energy, experience, and steadfast commitment to the role. His contribution was vital to our First Division title win and our subsequent promotion back to the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division.
“We extend our sincere thanks to Ollie for his hard work and dedication during his time with the club and wish him every success in the future.
“Beir bua agus beannacht, a chara.
“Galway United is also pleased to confirm the appointment of Jon Daly as First Team Coach and Assistant Manager, effective immediately. He will join John Caulfield’s backroom staff.”
Following a playing career that included time in England and Scotland, Daly managed St Patrick’s Athletic, leading them to victory in the 2023 FAI Cup. He has also managed Dundalk and held coaching positions in Finland and Scotland.
“Ollie and I have been discussing this situation for several weeks,” said John Caulfield, “and we are thrilled that Jon is joining us. I want to personally thank Ollie for all of his support and assistance.”
