Police have arrested two men suspected of spraying slurry on the route planned for a Pride parade.

The incident occurred in Ballymena, County Antrim, on Saturday morning, prior to the town’s inaugural Pride event.

The two individuals, aged 19 and 20, are now in custody concerning this incident.

The 19-year-old has been charged by police with criminal damage, possession of a bladed article, and depositing material on a road.

The 20-year-old faces charges of criminal damage, aiding and abetting criminal damage, and depositing material on a road.

Law enforcement has stated that the incident is being investigated as a hate crime, with ongoing enquiries.

Despite the incident, the Pride parade proceeded as scheduled yesterday afternoon after the streets were cleaned.
