Michael Gaine, a 56-year-old sheep farmer from Kerry, was buried in Kenmare today.
His funeral took place two and a half months after he went missing from his farmyard, and only weeks following the discovery of his remains on the same property.
A significant crowd attended the Holy Cross Church in Kenmare this morning to offer condolences and remembrance.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, the burial will be held privately.
The Gardaí investigation into Mr. Gaine’s murder is ongoing. This comes a day after the Garda Commissioner announced a review of the initial examination of the Gaine farmyard.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris confirmed to the media yesterday that the review will also encompass the initial investigation into the Tina Satchwell disappearance.
The Gardaí have faced criticism regarding their handling of both the Gaine and Satchwell cases, specifically their failure to locate the remains of the missing individuals during the initial stages of the investigations.
