Five men have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from eight-and-a-half to 14 years for the brutal torture of a woman in a Dublin apartment last year. The victim endured hours of beatings, burns, stabbings, and other forms of torture.
Natalie Ennis was kidnapped and subjected to the horrific ordeal due to a dispute over missing drugs, a situation she reportedly had no connection to.
In her victim impact statement, Ms. Ennis stated she was “sure” she would have been killed if “the police hadn’t come in that day,” expressing that “animals wouldn’t have done what they did”.
The 37-year-old suffered severe burns to her face and legs from a heated hammer head and a makeshift blowtorch fashioned from a deodorant can. Additionally, she and her daughter were threatened with rape.
Furthermore, her hair was forcibly cut in what the presiding judge characterized as “a humiliating, medieval ritualistic punishment, especially for a female.”
Gardaí rescued Ms. Ennis during a raid on the apartment.
Braxton Rice, 21, of Henrietta House, Henrietta Place, Dublin 7, identified as the ringleader and primary interrogator, received a sentence of 15 years with one year suspended, resulting in an effective jail time of 14 years.
Mark McMahon, 55, in whose residence the assault occurred, was sentenced to 12 years in prison. His son, Mark Keogh, 33, received a nine-year sentence.
Sean Conroy, 21, of Sillogue Road in Ballymun, described as another of the “main movers” in the crime, was sentenced to 13 years, with the final year suspended.
Kian Walshe, 22, of Constitution Hill in Dublin 7, who transported Ms. Ennis to the apartment, received an 11-year sentence, with two-and-a-half years suspended.
All defendants pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault causing harm to Ms Ennis at Henrietta House on 26 September 2024. Through their legal representatives, they expressed remorse and regret in court for their actions.
