A motorcyclist in his 40s has died following a collision with a car in Co Waterford on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred on the Williamstown Road.
Gardaí and emergency services were dispatched to the scene of the crash shortly after 1pm.
The male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been taken to University Hospital Waterford for a post-mortem examination.
The car’s driver, a woman in her 30s, was also hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening.
According to a Garda spokesperson, no other injuries were reported.
A technical examination of the collision site is underway, and the road remains closed with local diversions in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
They are also asking any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were in the Williamstown Road area between 12.50pm and 1.30pm to provide the footage to investigating gardaí.
Furthermore, homeowners along the Williamstown Road with CCTV footage are requested to make it available to gardaí. Anyone with information is urged to contact Waterford Garda Station at (051) 305300, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
“Investigations are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
This fatality is the latest in a series of incidents on Irish roads this weekend. Earlier on Saturday, a man in his 60s died in a crash in Co Tipperary.
