A man has pleaded guilty to a serious assault against a woman at Kee’s Hotel in Stranorlar.

Denis McDermott appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court in connection with the incident, which occurred on October 23, 2018, at Kee’s Hotel on Main Street, Stranorlar.

McDermott was present in court for his arraignment before Judge John Aylmer.

The 41-year-old, with an address at Newtown Place, Strabane, was charged with unlawfully assaulting Lisa Doherty, causing her harm.

McDermott entered a guilty plea when the charge was read to him.

His barrister, Mr. Colm Smyth SC, stated that his client had pleaded guilty to a “much lesser charge.”

Mr. Smyth, instructed by solicitor Mr. Patsy Gallagher, suggested that a probation report and a psychiatric report would be beneficial for the case.

Judge Aylmer granted legal aid to cover the cost of the reports and requested an assessment of McDermott’s suitability for community service.

The case was adjourned until October, and McDermott was granted bail under the same terms and conditions.
