Inishowen-based indie artist Luke McGuinness is releasing his highly anticipated new album, “Far Out Woo-woo,” this Thursday.
The album promises to be a creatively adventurous and emotionally engaging exploration into the unusual, the heartfelt, and the far-reaching.
A launch gig to celebrate the release will be held at the Corner Bar in Moville at 8pm on June 12th, with more performances planned for the future.
McGuinness’ distinctive sound draws inspiration from his Inishowen home and his background in fishing and seafaring. He has a history of working physically, from extended periods at sea to contributing to his family’s oyster farm. This hands-on experience and its inherent reflection have shaped his musical approach. Luke’s lifelong passion for music blossomed early, leading him to record and share the songs he crafted while traveling, working, and simply living.
The 12-track album was recorded and brought to life by Rory Donaghy at Blast Furnace Studios in Derry, a well-known creative hub in the North West of Ireland. Pete Maher, whose previous mastering credits include U2, Pixies, and Jack White, provided the final mastering, giving the record’s diverse soundscape a polished yet organic feel.
“Far Out Woo-woo” is thematically a unique genre-bending experience, blending folk, pop, rock, Americana, and touches of surrealist poetry. Through 12 deeply personal and often playful tracks, McGuinness delves into themes of ego, love, addiction, imagination, and the sheer absurdity of life—all delivered with a knowing wink.
“It’s an album born from eccentric characters, genuine memories, and what you could call ‘woo-woo’ concepts – the mystical, the absurd, the beautiful nonsense that colours life,” McGuinness explains.
