A helicopter crashed into a barge on the Mississippi River on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of the two people on board. The crash prompted a closure of the river to traffic near Alton, Illinois, according to a US Coast Guard spokesperson.
The Mississippi River is currently closed from mile marker 199 to mile marker 201, stated spokesperson Jonathan Lindberg.
