Gardaí have reported the circulation of counterfeit Bank of England £20 Sterling notes in Letterkenny yesterday.
Businesses are urged to carefully examine all banknotes at the point of sale.

A garda spokesperson advised, “Regarding this specific type of note, pay close attention to the foil patch on the top left side featuring a 3D image of the Coronation Crown. On the fraudulent notes discovered yesterday, this patch peels off, revealing the words ‘prop money’ printed underneath. Similar fake ‘prop money’ £20 notes were previously circulating in Buncrana several weeks ago.”
While the counterfeit notes may appear genuine at first glance, it’s crucial to inspect them closely and remain vigilant.
“Shop and business owners are asked to inform their staff about these fraudulent notes to prevent financial losses.”
