Gardaí have commenced an investigation following the death of a man in hospital shortly after he was discovered in Kilgarvan, County Kerry.
The man, who was in his 70s, was taken to University Hospital Kerry early on Wednesday morning.
Gardaí were alerted at approximately 4am, reporting that the man had been found unresponsive outside a building on Church Street in Kilgarvan.
He was declared dead at the hospital soon after arrival.
A post-mortem examination has been carried out. Gardaí have stated that the results will not be disclosed publicly at this time for operational reasons.
A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to offer support and keep the deceased’s family informed.
Gardaí are asking anyone with relevant information regarding this incident to come forward.
A Garda spokesperson stated: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the Church Street area between 12:00am (midnight) and 2:00am, including road users and pedestrians, to contact us.”
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Killarney Garda Station at 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
