The 2025 Donegal Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, August 24th in Letterkenny, has surpassed 1,000 registered participants.

Race Director Brendan McDaid noted that entries continue to arrive regularly.

“Earlier this year, we observed a higher-than-usual entry rate for this point in time, and we are thrilled to have exceeded 1,000 entries. Last Thursday, we were at 1,001. Since then, the number has increased to 1,015, which includes 41 relay teams, each with three members,” he stated.

“This is the first time we’ve reached 1,000 entries in the Donegal Half Marathon’s history, which began in 2014. Eleven years ago, we had 607 finishers in the half marathon and 132 in the full marathon held on the same day. The significant rise in participation in local road races is definitely reflected in this year’s impressive turnout.

“The return of the relay segment has also played a role in this increase. By reintroducing the relay, the organizing committee has enabled more people to participate in what promises to be a major event in Letterkenny on the final Sunday of August,” McDaid added.

Optum has once again generously agreed to sponsor t-shirts for the volunteers assisting on race day.

Donegal Half Marathon Ambassador, Danny McDaid, acknowledged Optum’s ongoing support, stating: “We have a long-standing relationship with Optum, who have offices in Letterkenny, and we greatly appreciate their support and assistance to the Donegal Half Marathon annually.”

Only those who registered for the 2025 Donegal Half Marathon by the end of June are guaranteed the specially designed long-sleeved, three-quarter zip top. However, registration will remain open until the evening before the race. This year’s event is once again in association with Kernan’s.
