A stylish early 18th-century home located in east Donegal, set on 1.6 acres, has been listed for sale with an asking price of €440,000.

Finn Lodge, boasting 348.55 sq. m (3751 sq ft) of living space, is situated on the outskirts of the village of Killygordon.

The historic Finn Lodge, Killygordon, which has recently come on the market.

According to the Buildings of Ireland website, “Framing the approach into Killygordon from the west and occupying extensive mature grounds, this building is one of the more substantial nineteenth-century private houses still extant in the village, and it was probably originally built by someone of means and importance within the local community.”

Local sources indicate that the property formerly served as the residence of the Church of Ireland rector. Subsequently, it was partially utilized as a dispensary by a doctor. The sizable outbuilding to the south, potentially predating the house itself, may have initially been used as a tannery.

Most recently, Finn Lodge served as the home of the late merchant seaman, Jackie Noonan, and his wife, Maisie. Mrs. Noonan, a fashion designer and tailoress who passed away in 2021, left a visible mark of her style and influence throughout the house.

Extensive renovations undertaken in the 1990s have successfully preserved the property’s historical character while integrating modern conveniences.

Finn Lodge comprises two elegant reception rooms, a living room, a sunroom, a dining room, two kitchens, six bedrooms, and two bathrooms.

Selling agent Henry Kee & Son notes that “The configuration of the accommodation is perfectly suited for conversion into a main residence with an auxiliary unit, such as a self-contained granny flat or apartment.”

They add, “The property’s proximity to amenities and echoes of a bygone era make it a compelling choice for those seeking the perfect blend of comfort and heritage.”
