It’s not every day that an eight-time All-Ireland champion makes a surprise visit to a children’s training session.
But that’s exactly what happened when Dublin GAA icon Michael Darragh MacAuley unexpectedly joined Na Rossa GAA’s Under 10s training session earlier this week, offering his expertise.
MacAuley stopped by the club in Leitir on Thursday evening, and upon seeing the U10 team training, he readily volunteered to share his skills with the young players, drawing from his experience as a former GAA Player of the Year.
Michael Darragh MacAuley leading the Na Rossa Under 10s through some drills during his visit.
He was accompanied by his partner, Sarah McCaffrey, herself a former Dublin star and a two-time All-Ireland winner, who also assisted in guiding the fortunate young athletes through various drills.
Michael Darragh has strong connections to the area, as his father, Dr. Michael McAuley, was originally from Lettermacaward.
The club expressed their gratitude to Michael Darragh and Sarah for their generous gesture on social media.
“We were delighted to welcome Michael Darragh MacAuley and his partner Sarah McCafferty to Leitir on Thursday. They kindly stopped by to observe our U10s training during their short visit,” Na Rossa posted.
“Michael Darragh has a deep affection for Leitir because his late father, Michael, was born and raised in the Lettermacaward parish. He mentioned he’ll be supporting Donegal in their upcoming match against Meath.”
“A huge thank you to Michael Darragh and Sarah.”
