Conor Kelly of Donegal has captured a brilliant gold medal at the European Under 20 Athletics Championships.
The Finn Valley AC athlete dominated the 400m final in Finland this evening, securing a decisive victory.
Kelly entered the championships as a strong contender, having recently broken the 46-second barrier for his personal best.
In the final, Kelly not only surpassed his personal best but also established a new U20 national record.
He sprinted to victory in an impressive 45.83 seconds, finishing over half a second ahead of France’s Milann Klemenic, who took silver.
This performance places the 18-year-old Kelly just 1.1 seconds behind David Gillick’s senior national 400m record – a record that may soon be challenged as this promising young athlete continues his ascent and hopefully achieves even greater success on the international stage.
