Celine Byrne, originally from Malin, is competing in the Roller Derby World Cup as part of Team Denmark.

The international competition commenced yesterday in Innsbruck, Austria, featuring 49 teams including powerhouses like Team USA, Japan, and Team Ireland.

Celine, who moved to Copenhagen two decades ago, has been involved in roller derby since 2015, when she joined the local Copenhagen team.

Known as ‘Lady MacDeath’ on the track, the Inishowen native plays a vital position as a ‘blocker’.

Team Denmark’s first match was yesterday and resulted in a loss to the Black Diaspora Roller Derby with a score of 246-112.

Today, they are competing against the Jewish Roller Derby, a team made up of Jewish skaters representing various nations and cultures.

Roller Derby is a volunteer-based sport where athletes contribute their personal time and resources to participate in the World Cup.
