The community is saddened by the passing of Sr. Magdalene Moore, a co-founder of the Solace Cancer Support Centre in Donegal Town.

Sister Magdalene, who dedicated her life to Donegal since the 1990s, leaves a powerful legacy of care, compassion, and dedicated service.

As a trained nurse and a passionate advocate for hospice care, Sr. Magdalene, alongside Helen McMahon, played a vital role in establishing Hospice Cancer Home Care under the North Western Health Board. Their enduring vision led to the establishment of the Solace Cancer Support Centre in Donegal Town in 2007.

Since its inception, the centre has been a beacon of hope, providing invaluable emotional support and practical assistance to individuals fighting cancer and their families.

Originally from Ballinasloe, Galway, Sister Magdalene’s passing will be deeply felt by the Sisters of Mercy Community in Donegal Town and Ballyshannon, as well as the broader Mercy Community of the Northern Branch.

She is survived by her brother, Mikey, her sisters-in-law, Mary Frances and Nora, her cherished nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and numerous friends and colleagues.

    Funeral Arrangements:

Reposing will take place at St. Catherine’s Convent of Mercy, College Street, Ballyshannon, F94 D309, on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025, from 2 PM to 5 PM.

The cortege will depart Ballyshannon at 6 PM, arriving at St. Patrick’s Church, Main Street, Donegal Town, F94 R5RK, at 7 PM for prayers. The coffin will remain open for the community to pay their respects to Sr. Magdalene from 7 PM to 9 PM.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at 12 noon in St. Patrick’s Church, Donegal Town, followed by interment in Clar Cemetery, F94 VXT6.

The funeral mass for Sr. Magdalene can be viewed online at https://mcn.live/Camera/donegal-town-tawnawilly-parish-donegal-town

Family flowers are kindly requested. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Solace Centre, Donegal Town, care of Patrick McKenna, Funeral Director, Ballyshannon.
