Donegal has been ranked the third most liveable county in Ireland, according to the latest Liveability Index.
The county achieved a score of 67, placing it just one point behind Wexford in second place and seven points behind the leader, Waterford. Cork and Clare complete the top five counties.
While Donegal couldn’t match the south east in terms of sunshine hours, it received high scores for its natural amenities, affordable housing, and closeness to Derry City.
“County Donegal ranks third overall,” the report states.
“It scores exceptionally well for its natural amenities (ranking second only to County Kerry) and also for housing affordability – boasting the third cheapest housing in the country. Its proximity to Derry City’s facilities contributes to a high ranking in the ‘proximity to a city’ category (7th place). However, it ranks near the bottom for sunshine (23rd place).”
