A celebration of the life of Máire Murray, a woman remembered for her kindness, wit, and intelligence, will be held today as she is laid to rest. Her passing occurred a week after a tragic drowning accident in southwest Donegal.
Máire, in her 50s, formerly resided in Harold’s Cross, Dublin, and Croghan Road, Carrick-on-Shannon, County Roscommon. The accident happened last Friday evening at An Trá Bheag (The Wee Beach) in Glencolmcille, where she encountered difficulties while swimming.
As chief pharmacist at St Michael’s hospital in Dún Laoghaire, she had just completed a week-long Irish language course at the Oideas Gael college. She had been a frequent visitor to the Donegal area for the past 20 years.
Máire will be fondly remembered by all those in Donegal who had the privilege of knowing her.
A heartfelt tribute from former Irish President Mary McAleese and her husband Martin, who were also attending the Oideas Gael college last week, stated: “Máire will be remembered with great fondness and grief”.
Her funeral service is scheduled for today, Friday, August 8th, at 12 noon in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Harold’s Cross, Dublin, followed by cremation at Mount Jerome crematorium.
Ms. Murray was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Nancy, and her sister-in-law, Sylvia.
She is deeply mourned and will be lovingly remembered by her sister Catherine (Kate); brothers Tomás (USA) and Kevin (Cork); sister-in-law Allie; nephew Tom; nieces Anna, Alice, and Lily; her many friends; extended family; neighbors; and colleagues at St. Michael’s Hospital, Dún Laoghaire.
