Creatives from across Donegal and the North West are invited to attend a special information event at Artlink Fort Dunree later this month.
This event will delve into opportunities for artists and creators to engage with tourists, showcase their talents, and build sustainable income through interactive experiences like workshops, demonstrations, and immersive activities.
The session is timed to coincide with Go Visit Inishowen’s “Meet The Makers” week and is a collaborative effort with Irish Hands, a platform dedicated to supporting local creatives.
Shane Kirby, founder of Irish Hands, stated: “Irish Hands is developing curated arts & crafts itineraries and bookable experiences across Inishowen and the North West, connecting visitors to our vibrant artistic community. Our platform highlights local artisans who combine exceptional craftsmanship with traditional techniques. We plan to offer hands-on workshops, studio visits, and engaging sessions, allowing both visitors and locals to discover the stories behind each handmade piece and further appreciate the skill and dedication of our artisans, from weavers and potters to woodturners and painters.”
“This Artlink event offers creatives a valuable opportunity to explore developing engaging experiences and forge deeper connections with visitors. Workshops and demonstrations can generate extra income while preserving our rich arts & craft traditions. I’m excited to see how this session inspires new ideas and empowers our talented community.”
Niall McCaughan, Manager of Go Visit Inishowen, added: “This information event is a perfect complement to our ‘Meet the Makers’ Week – and it’s about more than just income; it’s about creating lasting memories and fostering cultural exchange. Inishowen’s arts & craft scene is remarkable, and we believe this session will contribute to its further development. We want visitors to leave our peninsula with a genuine connection to the artists behind our crafts.”
Rebecca Strain, Artlink Project Coordinator, encourages participation: “Whether you’re an established creative or just starting, this is an excellent chance to explore new ways to share your work. We are delighted to host this presentation by Shane Kirby from Irish Hands, which focuses on celebrating local creative makers and supporting their growth. Don’t miss out!”
