Storm Floris has arrived in Donegal, prompting multiple yellow wind and rain warnings. Localized flooding, lightning damage, and power outages are possible.
Met Éireann predicts damaging gusts, hazardous driving conditions, and potential structural damage for several western counties.
The west and northwest coasts are expected to experience dangerous conditions. The brunt of Storm Floris is anticipated to impact Scotland, with amber warnings indicating a potential ‘danger to life’.
Since early this morning, Storm Floris has tracked northwest of Ireland, bringing unseasonably wet and windy weather, including periods of heavy rain and possible spot flooding.
A status yellow wind warning for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, and Leitrim took effect at 4 am and will remain in place until 4 pm.
A second yellow warning for rain is also currently active and scheduled to expire at 10 am.
Forecasters advise residents in affected areas to anticipate dangerous travel conditions, disruptions to outdoor events, structural damage, fallen trees, loose objects, and power outages.
Met Éireann’s Andrew Doran Sherlock previously noted the impending “unseasonably wet and windy weather [is] on the way with the approach of Storm Floris.”
The UK Met Office has issued a similar weather warning for the entirety of Northern Ireland, a yellow alert valid for 24 hours starting Monday at 6 am. Amber warnings are in effect for Scotland and parts of England and Wales.
The Met Office warns of “injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown on to sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.”
Looking ahead, Met Éireann forecasts mainly dry weather for Ulster tomorrow, with sunny spells. Showers are expected, primarily in the morning. High temperatures will range from 15 to 19 degrees Celsius, with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds, becoming light to moderate later in the day.
