Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Co Cork involving a cyclist.

The incident occurred on the N25 in Carrigtwohill at approximately 5pm on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services attended the scene, but the male cyclist, who was in his 60s, was pronounced dead.

His body has been taken to the mortuary at University Cork Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The male driver of the van involved, also in his 60s, was treated at the scene.

Gardaí have closed the road to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct a technical examination.

This section of the N25 will remain closed overnight, and a further examination of the scene will be carried out on Thursday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for any road users who were travelling in the area between 4.30pm and 5pm on Wednesday and may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Midleton Garda Station on 021 462 1550.
