A large gathering is anticipated in Raphoe next weekend to commemorate Canon Denis McGettigan’s Diamond Jubilee of Ordination with a Mass of Thanksgiving.

The celebration will be held next Friday evening, June 20th, at St Eunan’s Church. Following the Mass, all attendees are welcome to join refreshments at the nearby Deele College.

Canon McGettigan, fondly known as ‘Fr Dinny’, was born in Kilmacrennan in 1939. He completed his primary education at the local national school before attending St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny.

In 1958, he began his priestly training at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, culminating in his Ordination on June 20, 1965.

Having retired in 2018, Canon McGettigan is pictured at a previous event held at Deele College, the same location where the Jubilee refreshments will take place.
