Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, has sharply criticized actor and Democratic donor George Clooney for suggesting Biden abandon his 2024 re-election campaign.
In a rare interview streamed online, Hunter Biden unleashed a barrage of profanity-laced remarks against Clooney while conversing with Andrew Gallagher on YouTube.
Clooney initially backed Joe Biden’s re-election bid, even hosting a highly successful fundraiser for the then-president.
However, the actor shifted his position following what was widely considered a poor debate performance by Mr. Biden against Republican Donald Trump in June 2024. Clooney joined a chorus of voices urging the then-81-year-old president to withdraw from the race.
Clooney expressed his views in an opinion piece published in The New York Times. Mr. Biden ultimately withdrew from the race a few weeks later, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, who subsequently lost to Mr. Trump.
During the extensive interview, Hunter Biden questioned Clooney’s credibility and argued that the star of “Ocean’s Eleven” had no justification to “undermine” his father.
“What right do you have to step on a man who’s given 52 years of his f****** life to the services of this country and decide that you, George Clooney, are going to take out basically a full page ad in the f****** New York Times to undermine the president,” Hunter Biden stated, before transitioning to a discussion about the perceived lack of unity among Democrats compared to Republicans.
Joe Biden dedicated 36 years to the US Senate and served as Barack Obama’s vice president for eight years before being elected president in 2020.
As of Tuesday, representatives for Clooney, based in Los Angeles, have not responded to requests for comment sent via email.
