Record numbers of women are contacting Women’s Aid to report abuse by their partners and ex-partners including rape, sexual assault and even threats on either their or their children’s lives. The charity said it dealt with more contacts and disclosures in 2024 than in any other year in its 50-year history. A Donegal lorry driver has been jailed for dangerous driving causing the death of a young man in Roscommon last year. Shaun Curran, 32, of Middle Dore, Bunbeg, was sentenced today to five years in prison, with the final 12 months suspended. The sentence stems from a crash that tragically took the life of 24-year-old Rian Sheridan, from Cluainluáin, Renvyle, Co Galway. Curran was also disqualified from driving for seven years, according to RTÉ News. The incident occurred shortly after 7pm on Tuesday, prompting an alarm raised by crew members onboard the vessel. Uisce Éireann has confirmed plans for water mains replacement works in Keadue, necessitating a 50-day road closure. The R259 will be closed from Monday, June 30th until Friday, August 8th, with diversions in operation. Local residents and emergency services will have access throughout the duration of the works.
