A new report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has revealed the existence of 38 large-scale peat extraction sites operating illegally across Ireland. The investigation identified these 38 sites in seven counties: Offaly, Kildare, Tipperary, Westmeath, Roscommon, Longford, and Sligo. These sites are extracting peat without the required authorizations from local authorities. Of the counties investigated, Offaly had the highest number of illegal sites with nine. New data from the Central Bank of Ireland reveals that the total value of settled motor insurance claims reached a record high of €414 million in the first half of 2024, encompassing both damage and injury settlements. The devastating collision occurred around 6:30 PM on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher, Carndonagh. A car and a van were involved. Police have successfully dismantled what they believe to be one of the largest cannabis operations uncovered in the North West in recent years. Suspected cannabis plants, estimated to have a street value of £1.4 million, were seized during a planned search operation in the Strabane area. The searches are still ongoing.
