Iran has raised the official death toll for its war with Israel, with official media reporting 935 people have been killed in the country during the 12-day conflict. The state-run IRNA news agency did not give a breakdown between military and civilian casualties, but said on Monday of the 935 people, 38 were children and 132 were women. Its previous report last week said 627 people had been killed. The US-based Human Rights Activists over the weekend said 1,190 people had been killed according to data collected by the agency’s network of medical and local volunteers. Of those, it said…
The cause of death for popular drag queen performer The Vivienne, James Lee Williams (32), has been ruled as misadventure. A coroner determined Williams suffered cardio-respiratory arrest following ketamine use. Williams, also known as The Vivienne, was discovered in the bath by a neighbor at their Cheshire home in Chorlton-by-Backford on Sunday, January 5th. The last known contact with Williams was the previous Friday evening. Friend Bobby Musker testified at Warrington Coroner’s Court that it was clear Williams had used ketamine at that time. The inquest revealed the discovery of five drug snap bags within the property, located in a…
Israeli forces killed at least 22 people and wounded 20 others, many of whom were attempting to get desperately needed food aid in southern Gaza, according to witnesses, hospitals and Gaza’s Health Ministry. Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis said it received the bodies of 11 people who were shot while returning from an aid site associated with Israeli and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Fund in southern Gaza on Monday, part of a deadly pattern that has killed more than 500 Palestinians in the chaotic and controversial aid distribution programme over the past month. Ten others were killed at a United Nations…
Manorcunningham’s Paul Canning, an Inishowen Councillor, has been chosen as the new Cathaoirleach, becoming Donegal’s ‘first citizen’. The Fianna Fáil representative succeeds Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy in the role. Cllr. Canning, a seasoned architect, brings 14 years of experience as a county councillor to the position. His journey on Donegal County Council began in 2011 when he was co-opted following Charlie McConalogue’s (also Fianna Fáil) election to the Dáil. Cllr Canning’s family, including his parents, wife Stephanie, and daughter Vanessa, were present in Lifford, along with party colleagues Minister of State McConalogue and Senator Niall Blaney, to celebrate the occasion.…
Irish rap trio Kneecap have announced they will perform on the main stage at Electric Picnic this August. The festival, which takes place from August 29-31 at Stradbally Estate, confirmed the addition. “This is going to be a special one,” EP posted on social media. It comes after the group, which consists of Móglaí Bap, Mo Chara, and DJ Próvaí, performed at Glastonbury over the weekend. British police said on Saturday that they are assessing videos of comments made by the Belfast rap trio, as well as punk duo Bob Vylan, during their performances at the Glastonbury Festival. Bobby Vylan,…
Dozens of Israeli settlers rampaged around a military base in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, setting fires, vandalising military vehicles, spraying graffiti and attacking soldiers, the military said. Sunday night’s unrest came after several attacks in the West Bank carried out by Jewish settlers and anger at their arrests by security forces attempting to contain the violence over the past few days. More than 100 settlers on Wednesday evening entered the West Bank town of Kfar Malik, setting property ablaze and opening fire on Palestinians who tried to stop them, Najeb Rostom, head of the local council, said. No civilised country…

Donegal County Councillors have approved an updated five-year tourism strategy. This update follows a recent review prompted by the initial strategy’s exclusion of Malin Head from a list of Donegal’s key attractions in 2023. The omission was highlighted at the previous council meeting, where concerns were voiced about the strategy’s insufficient focus on the Inishowen peninsula. Malin Head, the starting point of the Wild Atlantic Way, recorded 99,073 visitors in 2023, according to Donegal County Council data. Inishowen Councillor Martin McDermott welcomed the revised report, stating, “It beggars belief for me that Failte Ireland had sent figures to the council…
Andy Farrell has announced that an injury sustained by Williams while scoring his second try – one of two he scored in the match against Western Force – will keep him off the field for a period that Farrell described as “medium to long term.” News Source : Irish Examiner
Major heatwaves across southern Europe have pushed temperatures above 40C in countries including Italy, Spain and Greece, as local authorities issued fresh warnings over the risk of wildfires. Experts link the rising frequency and intensity of these heatwaves to climate change, warning that such extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common across Europe’s southern region. Severe heat was recorded in Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal before the weekend, with locals and tourists alike taking shelter from the sweltering conditions. Two-thirds of Portugal were on high alert on Sunday over extreme heat and wildfires, with temperatures expected to top 42C in…
