A remarkable seven students from Loreto Letterkenny have been chosen to represent Ulster in track and field at the prestigious Tailteann Games. This year’s event will take place in Carlow on June 21st. Aoife McGeehin The Tailteann Games is a highly competitive inter-provincial schools championship, showcasing the best under-17 athletes from across Ireland. The top two finishers in each event will earn the opportunity to represent Ireland at the schools’ international competition in July. EU transport ministers have approved a significant update to airline passenger rights, including compensation of up to €500 for flight delays. The agreement includes more than 30 new or strengthened rights, revising regulations covering air passenger rights and airline liability from booking to meals, delays, and cancellations. These long-awaited changes mean airlines can no longer use “extraordinary circumstances” as a blanket excuse to deny compensation. A private lunar lander from Japan crashed while attempting a touchdown on Friday, the latest casualty in the commercial rush to the Moon. Tokyo-based company ispace declared the mission a failure several hours after communication was lost with the lander. Mark McAnaw, a convicted rapist and former resident of Donegal, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for threatening and harassing three female journalists from the Sunday World. McAnaw (53), previously residing in Letterkenny, declined to agree to a bond during proceedings at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
