Arranmore RNLI’s volunteer crew has experienced a particularly busy week, answering five separate callouts from Malin Head Coast Guard.
The diverse requests included medical evacuations, a NowDoc (Northwest doctor on call) transfer to Arranmore Island, and providing assistance to individuals in distress on the water. The latter incident saw collaborative efforts with our colleagues at Bunbeg Coast Guard, who successfully completed the rescue.
The station has also welcomed a new crew member, Dan Mac A’Bhaird (Sailor).
Dan, whose parents are from Arranmore, is currently in his final year at Colaiste Ailigh, Letterkenny.
From a young age, Dan has aspired to join the lifeboat crew and has recently submitted his application to begin RNLI training.
Dan comes from a family with a strong tradition of service; his uncles and cousins have all volunteered with the Arranmore lifeboat, and his uncle, John Sailor, is currently a member of the crew.
John commented, “I’m very proud to see Dan join the crew and continue our family’s commitment. It’s fantastic to see young people dedicating themselves to this vital rescue service.”
He added, “The training is comprehensive and invaluable, equipping them with skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Being part of a team that works closely together to save lives is a highly valuable asset on their CV, one that future employers will certainly recognise.”
