FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf have reached a settlement in her lawsuit, where she alleged physical and emotional abuse during their relationship.
A request to dismiss the case with prejudice (meaning it cannot be filed again) was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by FKA Twigs’ lawyer on behalf of Tahliah Barnett. The defendant is 39-year-old actor Shia LaBeouf.
A joint statement reads: “Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court. While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.”
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2020. Multiple trial dates were scheduled but consistently delayed.
The couple’s relationship began in 2018 after Barnett, a 37-year-old English singer and actor, was cast in a supporting role in “Honey Boy,” an autobiographical film about LaBeouf’s childhood acting career.
According to the lawsuit, LaBeouf initially engaged in a “charm offensive” before the relationship deteriorated into a “living nightmare.”
Barnett alleged that LaBeouf subjected her to constant fear and humiliation, including slamming her into a car, attempting to strangle her, and knowingly transmitting a sexually transmitted disease.
She also claimed that he isolated her from family and friends, demanded unwavering loyalty, and displayed intense jealousy towards everyone from polite waiters to her former fiancé, Robert Pattinson.
Barnett asserted that her experiences reflected a pattern of behavior by LaBeouf.
“Shia LaBeouf hurts women,” the lawsuit stated. “He uses them. He abuses them, both physically and mentally. He is dangerous.”
Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, LaBeouf released a statement acknowledging, “I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt.”
However, in a 2021 court filing, LaBeouf denied the accusations in the lawsuit, asserting that any injuries or damages suffered by Barnett were not his responsibility.
LaBeouf is widely known for his roles in “Transformers” (2007) and “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull” (2008). He also appeared in “The Peanut Butter Falcon” (2019) and “Megalopolis” (2023).
FKA Twigs, celebrated for her genre-bending music, started her career as a backup dancer before releasing her debut album, “LP1,” in 2014. It was followed by “Magdalene” (2019) and “Eusexua” (2023). As an actress, she featured in “The Crow” (2024).
