A van driver has been apprehended following a high-speed pursuit with Gardaí in Inishowen early this morning, after failing to stop at a checkpoint.

The incident occurred when a van approached a checkpoint operated by the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit in Bridgend during the early hours and subsequently failed to halt.

Gardaí reported that the van was driven dangerously across Inishowen until a stinger device was successfully deployed to bring the vehicle to a stop.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Gardaí also confirmed the driver possessed neither a driver’s license nor insurance, resulting in the van’s seizure.

The van’s passenger was also arrested while attempting to flee on foot due to an existing bench warrant.
