Authorities report a fatal incident at Dillon Falls in Oregon where one person died and two others remain missing after a group was swept over the waterfall.
The incident occurred Saturday afternoon on the Deschutes River, approximately 10 miles from Bend, Oregon, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Three individuals were rescued from the river and transported to a hospital in Bend. Sadly, one person was declared dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office confirmed.
The search for the remaining missing individuals continued into Saturday evening and resumed Sunday morning, stated Sergeant Josh Barker of the sheriff’s office.
Details regarding the identities of the victims and the circumstances leading to the group being swept over the falls have not yet been released.
Dillon Falls, located within Deschutes National Forest, is characterized by a significant drop followed by a series of rapids flowing through a narrow gorge of lava rock.
