Several people were injured after a car in Bohmte, Germany, careened off a road, struck a seven-year-old boy who was on a trampoline, and then became airborne, crashing into the roof of a barn on its side, according to local police.
Authorities stated the car initially collided with a parked vehicle, broke through a hedge, and entered a garden before hitting the boy.
The vehicle then traveled over uneven terrain, which seemingly launched it into the air, resulting in a crash into the neighboring barn’s roof, approximately three meters above ground level.
Police reported that the seven-year-old sustained serious injuries in the Saturday evening incident.
The driver, identified as a 42-year-old man, and his wife suffered serious injuries. Their two sons, aged 11 and 12, along with a 13-year-old passenger, were also in the car and sustained minor injuries.
Emergency services responded with dozens of firefighters, around a dozen ambulances, and two rescue helicopters.
Images from the scene depict rescuers cutting through the barn roof and the wreckage of a playground the car traversed. A crane was used to remove the car from the roof, and it was subsequently taken away by police.
An investigation is currently underway.
