Torrential rain that battered South Korea for five days has resulted in 14 fatalities and left 12 people missing, according to government reports.

On Sunday, one person died after their home collapsed due to the heavy rainfall. Another individual was found dead after being swept away by an overflowing stream in Gapyeong, a town located northeast of Seoul, the Interior and Safety Ministry stated.

The ministry reported that eight bodies were discovered and six individuals were reported missing in Sancheong, a southern town, on Saturday. This followed heavy downpours that triggered landslides, house collapses, and flash floods.

According to a ministry report, six people remain missing in Gapyeong and the southern city of Gwangju.

Earlier in the week, three people were found dead inside a submerged car. Additionally, one person died when their car was buried by soil and concrete following the collapse of a retaining wall of an overpass in Osan, situated just south of Seoul, amidst the heavy rainfall.

As of 9am local time on Sunday, approximately 3,840 people remained evacuated from their homes, the ministry report indicated.

However, the rain has ceased in most parts of South Korea, leading to the lifting of heavy rain alerts across the country, ministry officials confirmed.

Since Wednesday, the southern regions have experienced rainfall amounts ranging from 24 to 31 inches, as per the ministry report.
