A devastating explosion at a law enforcement training center in Los Angeles, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, is under investigation as a potential training accident, authorities have stated.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported the explosion at the Biscailuz Training Facility at approximately 7:30 am Friday, according to spokeswoman Nicole Nishida.

Ms. Nishida confirmed the tragic loss of three department members.

The cause of the explosion and the specific activities of the department members at the time of the incident remain unknown at this time.

A law enforcement official, speaking to the Associated Press under condition of anonymity, indicated that a possible training accident is being considered as a preliminary line of inquiry.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi addressed the incident on X, calling it an “appears to be a horrific incident”. She indicated that federal agents are on site to gather further information.

“Please pray for the families of the sheriff’s deputies killed,” Ms. Bondi urged.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass posted on X that arson investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Los Angeles Fire Department, and the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad are assisting at the training facility.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office has confirmed he is aware of the situation and has been briefed.

KABC-TV’s aerial footage revealed that the explosion occurred in a car park containing sheriff patrol vehicles and trucks.
