An Inishowen woman has been fined €320 in court after being caught speeding in her BMW in Drumfries last year.

Linda Skelly, whose address is Benduff, Carndonagh, did not appear in Buncrana District Court to face the charge of driving at excessive speed.

Judge Eiteain Cunningham proceeded with the case after confirming that the defendant had been notified of the hearing.

“Ms. Skelly is not present in court, nor has she instructed a solicitor. I am satisfied that she received the summons as served, and therefore, I’m going to proceed in her absence,” the judge stated.

A GoSafe operator testified that he was operating a ‘speed detection cart’ on the R238 regional road at Owenboy, Drumfries on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

He confirmed that the speed limit in that area was 80 kilometers per hour.

At 8:18 pm, he detected a BMW 5 Series, registered as 132-D, traveling at 103 kilometers per hour within the 80kph zone.

The GoSafe operator returned to base and informed control, resulting in a fixed charge penalty notice being issued to Ms. Skelly, which went unpaid.

He submitted a certificate as proof.

After reviewing the evidence, Judge Cunningham stated that she was “satisfied the facts have been proven.”

She convicted Ms. Skelly of the motoring offense, imposing a fine of €320 with five months to pay.
