Purrfect time to adopt as kitten season overwhelms ISPCA resources

The ISPCA is urgently calling on cat owners across Ireland to spay or neuter their cats to help curb overbreeding and prevent animal suffering.

ISPCA catteries are at full capacity, struggling to house nearly 90 cats and kittens in their centers nationwide.

Denise McCausland, ISPCA National Head of Animal Welfare, based in Falcarragh, is appealing to compassionate animal lovers to consider adopting a rescued kitten, or even better, a pair.

“By adopting, you’ll not only gain a devoted and affectionate companion, but you’ll also free up vital space in our catteries, enabling us to rescue even more animals in need,” Denise explained.

“Many of the kittens we’ve rescued required immediate and costly veterinary treatment that could have been avoided entirely if the adult cats had been spayed or neutered. This simple procedure is the most effective way to minimize unnecessary suffering, and we must all do our part to control cat overpopulation. We strongly encourage anyone who is feeding and caring for a cat to take responsible action and consult with your veterinarian today.”

Every cat and kitten adopted from the ISPCA undergoes a comprehensive health check, receives vaccinations, is treated for parasites, microchipped, and spayed/neutered (or scheduled to be upon reaching the appropriate age).

Onyx and Nimbus are siblings who would love a forever home together.

Denise further stated: “Whether you’re a seasoned pet owner or new to the joys of animal companionship, now is the purrfect opportunity to open both your heart and your home. Kittens make amazing companions; their inherent energy and loving nature, combined with their playful antics and curious minds, provide endless entertainment. Studies have even proven that caring for a pet can significantly reduce stress and anxiety”.

    Here’s How You Can Help:

    1. Adopt: Give a forever home to a deserving ISPCA rescued pet (or even two!).
    2. Foster: Provide a temporary, caring home to ease the pressure on ISPCA centers.
    3. Donate: Support the ISPCA’s mission by donating food, toys, essential supplies, or financial contributions.
    4. Spread the Word: Share your ISPCA pet’s heartwarming story on social media and tag the ISPCA to inspire others to take action.

With a multitude of adorable kittens under ISPCA care, eagerly awaiting their permanent, loving families, adoption is more crucial than ever.
